Knicks on verge of hiring Perry as GM — NBA notebook

The deal will enable Caldwell-Pope to re-enter the market next summer, ESPN reported Tuesday night.

It's safe to say James Harden would welcome Carmelo Anthony in Houston.

"That's out of my hands, I go out there and put the basketball in the hoop and handle my business."

"Anybody can beat anybody, but the Warriors are still the favorites", Thompson added.

The Knicks have been a wreckage since the Grunwald firing - writing the how-to book on ruining a franchise with mismanagement.

Perry, Mills and Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek will "discuss the team's strategy moving forward" at a Monday news conference, the Knicks said. The Knicks management decided to keep Anthony on the roster rather than sending him to Houston. He offered Tim Hardaway, Jr. - a player he and Jackson initially clashed over before Jackson traded him to Atlanta two years ago - a four-year, $71 million contract the Hawks never considered matching, and one that left the Knicks with no cap space to pursue a veteran point guard after they used their remaining salary cap exception to sign second-year guard Ron Baker. The person was granted anonymity because no announcement had been made.

In this scenario, it would chance the former rumors a bit. Incidentally, it is pretty cool that by hiring Perry, the Knicks now are the only franchise in the NBA with a front office led by an African-American president and general manager.

Days after Perry was dismissed as the Orlando Magic's assistant GM in April, the Kings hired him as the front office's No. 2 to GM Vlade Divac. If someone isn't allowed to come in and bring the people they think can best do the job with them, how is the culture ever supposed to change?

But at Dolan's Madison Square Garden, it's simply more of the same. "Our message to our fans is clear: we will be disciplined in sticking to this strategy, hold our players and staff accountable to the high standards that we have set for ourselves, and deliver results". The Rockets would get Anthony and send Anderson to the Trail Blazers. It'll take a lot more than bringing in one man - and replacing no one else - to have one of those.
